You might reconsider your urge to gripe about our chilly winter once you’ve laid your eyes on this frosty series by photographer Richard Johnson.

Over six years the Canadian fella has travelled through his country, snapping away at the ice fishing architecture he spotted in each province. Each of the 650 huts has its own identity visual identity, but serves a few crucial purposes: it must be weather resistant, transportable, give basic shelter as well as access to the ground underneath.

We’d hazard a guess you won’t find central heating or electric blankets inside, so snuggle up tight, feel grateful for the warmth and have a flick through the strangely beautiful images.
