the book vase

By

Very few people have flipped a book open, hoping to find a vase inside, but you have to hand it to designer Hideaki Miyauchi for making this curious concept a reality. Rather than create another ceramic or glass vessel, Hideaki designed a water-resistant paper vase that literally unfolds as you turn the pages of a book. With a test tube inserted into the spine, the vase can hold one or two of your favourite blooms. When not in use, it can be neatly closed and stored on your bookshelf. Now isn’t that a novel idea? Unfortunately for fans of this oddball invention, the ‘Flowery Tale’ vase doesn’t ship to countries outside of Japan, but you can gaze at its sleek form over at the Mecli site.
