japanese designer yuma kano turns wood waste into furniture

By

We all know that cutting down big, healthy trees and processing them into construction material isn’t the most sustainable way of building stuff. But what if you could use the natural scraps and waste surrounding the trees, instead?

Japanese designer Yuma Kano has come up with a building material called ForestBank which is made from the natural materials that are “considered worthless for construction or furniture-making”, like small trees, foliage, bark, seeds and soil. That forest waste is then combined with a mineral base and water-based acrylic resin. The end result is a super-unique material designed for use in furniture and interiors – and it looks pretty darn rad.

Yuma reckons that ForestBank could also be crafted from debris in streets, parks and gardens, as well as scrap wood from other projects. Cool, eh? The possibilities are endless when it comes to this nifty new material. Take a gander at Yuma’s website to learn more about this ace project.
