ismail zaidy’s moroccan dreamland

By

When we take photos with our camera phones, we’re just happy to get a picture where everyone is smiling and in focus. So, we’re super-impressed by young Marrakech shutterbug Ismail Zaidy, who uses only his camera phone and minimal lighting to take surreally beautiful snaps of his family against a stark Moroccan landscape.

Often working with his brother and sister as models and creative collaborators, Ismail’s work reflects on family relationships, as well as the colours, environment and culture of everyday life in Morocco. “When I was a kid, I used to live in a modest area in Marrakech where I was watching the way the women would wear their fabrics, hike and djellaba out on the streets,” Ismail tells Nataal. “These women are still a huge inspiration for me today, and when I initiate a project, I always try to show this side of my culture through my work.” If you’re drawn to Ismail’s dreamy world, wander over to his Instagram for more.
