Calling all fans of retro aesthetics, poolside naps and colourful umbrellas – the National Archives in Canberra has partnered with comedian Tim Ross to put on an ace exhibition that’ll conjure up treasured childhood memories of summers spent travelling to sunny destinations with your parents and siblings. Ah, we can already smell the sunscreen and hear the chime of “Are we there yet?” in the distance.

Reception this way: motels – a sentimental journey with Tim Ross features photographs and footage of mid-century motels that are packed with smiling families and stylish holidaymakers alike. The snaps are simply wonderful, and are really giving us the urge to whip out the togs and crack open a Paddle Pop. If you’d like to find out more about the show (which is free, by the way), have a squiz at the National Archives website.

Reception this way: motels – a sentimental journey with Tim Ross is running until September 4th.
