tunesday – the chats’ festival do’s and don’t’s

Punk-rockers The Chats sling us a few of their festival tips and tricks.

Between bowl haircuts and songs about smoko, Sunshine Coast/Kabi Kabi and Jinibara Country band The Chats know a thing or two about having a grand ol’ time. Ahead of their appearance at Groovin The Moo this Saturday May 9th in Lismore, we caught up with the funny lads to find out what their do’s and don’t’s are when it comes to festival-going. Warning: silliness ahead.

As a punter, what’s in your festival bag? Usually have a couple Devon sangas with tomato sauce packed in there.

What’s on your rider? A loaf of bread, 2kg of Devon and 500ml tomato sauce (Coles brand).

What’s the biggest mistake you’ve made at a festival? Forgot my tomato sauce at Splendour 2017 – was fuckin’ spewin’ ayy.

And what’s the most awesome thing that’s happened to you at a festival? Probably at Splendour 2017 when I was walking around looking for tomato sauce and some legend hooked me up with half a bottle – was fully frothin’ ayy.

What are five festival do’s? 1. Make sure you eat something before drinking (Devon sanga with tomato sauce usually does the trick).
2. Leave a trail of Devon sanga crumbs behind you so your mates can find you if you get lost.
3. Make sure your phone has enough battery to order more Devon sanga ingredients on Uber Eats if you run out.
4. If you meet a girl, offer her a bite of your Devon sanga – it demonstrates compassion and consideration.
5. Eat your crusts.

And five festival don’ts? 1. Don’t hog the sauce.
2. Don’t talk with your mouth full.
3. Don’t rock up with no Devon and expect a seat at the table.
4. Don’t drown the Dev' in sauce.
5. Don’t buy food inside the fez, total rort.

If 2026’s Groovin The Moo was someone’s first ever festival experience, what nugget of wisdom would you offer them? Devon sangas are tasty as.

Hungry for more Devon sangas… uh, we mean tunes? Feast your ears on The Chats and snag a ticket to Groovin The Moo to see the punksters play live.
