Ahead of her performance alongside Mallrat at Vivid’s free Tumbalong Nights this May 22nd in Sydney/Warrane, we caught up with Gold Coast/Yugambeh Country wunderkind Lyric to find out all about what life is like on the road – as well as what it’s like to perform with a muso whose supported her from the start.What’s your favourite place to perform and why? I love a hometown show because it means all of my friends and family get to come along and watch, which is always so special and important to me! But I mean, I love performing anywhere I can – every time I get to play in a new city is such an exciting moment.

What’s on your rider? I always ask for a fruit platter on my rider that must include strawberries and raspberries haha! I need my berries before I go on stage – they always fill me up without making me feel sick, so they're the perfect pre-show snack.

What’s the first thing you do when you get off stage? I usually do a big debrief with the band. We all go into the green room and hype each other up and talk about what went well in the show. Vibes are always so high right after a show, so it's good to just take a moment to be like “Hell yeah, we absolutely slayed that” before it's time to go pack up and load out.

What has been your wildest tour experience? Before my Sydney headline show at the end of last year, our flight got cancelled the day of as we were pulling out of the driveway about to leave. So, we frantically ended up having to trade cars with our friends and drive an hour and a half away to a totally different airport, while I booked us new flights on the drive there, to get on a completely new flight in order to hopefully make it to Sydney. But we ended up getting there just as soundcheck started haha – so it all worked out!

If you could have any musician in the world support your show, who would it be? I love Mariae Cassandra from Perth/Boorloo – I'd love to have her support one of my shows at some point in the future!

What do you think it will be like to join Mallrat for this Vivid Sydney show? I played one of my first ever shows with Mallrat actually! Back at the end of 2023, I opened for her at Miami Marketta on the Gold Coast. I was only just starting out playing with a band and I was so, so nervous, but she was so lovely and kind and hyped me up after my set. She's such an inspiring artist and producer, and I can't wait to get to play with her again.

Who else are you hoping to catch perform from the Vivid Sydney lineup? I think Matt Corby and Gretta Ray would be an awesome one to catch on June 13th – they're both such amazing artists whose music I love!
