tunesday - megan washington interview and giveaway
Oh, Megan, we've missed you round these parts.
Oh, Megan Washington, we've missed you round these parts. The Papua New Guinea-born, Aussie-based lass has a brand new album headed our way this week, and there are a number of reasons we think it's pretty ace.
It's inspired by New Romantics era '80s pop, for one, meaning you could probably dig out your pirate shirt and fishnet gloves when you go in for a listen. Plus, if you feel like getting all deep and meaningful it's also filled with super relatable lyrics that will hit you right in the ticker.
We'll let you figure out the rest of the good points for yourself, but in the meantime we had a chat with the musical lady to find out about a few of her favourite things.
Thing about the new album?
That's it's clean and sleek sounding. I've never made anything that didn't sound cobwebby before. It's got sharp edges.
Song to play live?
At the moment it's "Limitless". It's got a big range, so it's fun to hit all the high and low notes. Like playing a video game.
Sunday dinner?
Leftovers at my parents' house, with my sister. Bottle of wine and then Scrabble with Mum while Dad does the washing up.
Place to write music?
In my head. Lyric writing is especially good to do on the train. Also, soundcheck is a great time to jam with the band.
Craft activity?
Good question! I like to draw, I do it a lot. I also knit, but I still have a lot of anxiety about casting off. Mum helps me do that. If growing plants counts as craft, growing plants.
Memory from childhood?
Eating Maggi noodles on the living room floor and watching Fantasia 2000 during a tropical thunderstorm.
Hangover cure?
Hydralite, raw broccoli with guacamole and lemon juice (trust me) and then go for a run.
Cartoon character?
Tina Belcher from Bob's Burgers.
Lyric you've written?
"I would be a joker, but that card looks silly when you play your ace."
Megan's new album, There There, is out on September 12th, and we have five special copies to give away. To enter, shoot an email here with your name and address and tell us your favourite Megan Washington track to date.
