tunesday – our hometown with wishy
Wishy on their new album, their favourite pub and their sensational new music video.
We were lucky enough to steal a few moments of Indy (and indie) rockers Wishy’s time to find out all about their hometown of Indianapolis. The band tell us about their fave places to hang out, as well as where they recorded their sophomore album Nature’s Pill. Listen to the record over here, and check out the rad collage-y video for their track “Sensational” below.
Describe Indianapolis in a sentence. A modest midwestern city with a dynamic, bustling arts scene.
Where’s the best place to watch live music in your hometown? State Street Pub! Legendary local spot owned by Mark Tester. Many incredible bands and artists have played there over the years and it continues to be the centre of the indie/punk/experimental music scene.
Where was your second album Nature’s Pill made? We recorded this album in LA at our producer Ben Lumsdaine’s house. He converted his second bedroom into a music studio which made for a more intimate music-making experience.
What track on the new album feels the most like Indianapolis bottled up in a song? Probably “Sensational” because of how much our friend and local artist Jess Dunn contributed to the video for this song. She cut out over 2,000 pieces of paper to make the entirety of the video into a stop-motion masterpiece.
What musicians from Indianapolis have been influential to Wishy’s sound? All Indy musicians are influential to us. There would be no music scene without all of those who came before us. One of our favorites is Living Dream – no one else is doing it like them right now.
If you were to take someone on a tour of your hometown, where would you take them? State Street Pub, of course.
Will Australians get the chance to see Nature’s Pill live? Yes! We are tentatively planning to come down under in 2027. :)
