Think of The Design Kids as your key to bursting the creative industry bubble.

Our parents' hearts are in the right place when they tell us to follow our dreams, but it can be pretty darn tough to do that when you fancy a career designing skateboards or cover art. There's no traditional channel to pursuing a creative calling, and the industry can sometimes seem like an impenetrable world.

Enter The Design Kids: your key to bursting the bubble. The friendly crew behind the online resource are looking out for Australian design students, giving them a welcoming push into their industry network. They know what it's like to be a wide-eyed kid stuffed full of ambition, because most of them are uni students stuffed full of ambition – this is a peer-to-peer project, no snooty old timers involved. The whole shebang was started by designer Frankie Ratford, now a lecturer herself, when she realised up-and-comers needed more opportunities to get involved with their design heroes.

No matter your craft, the website is an extensive archive of information, listing upcoming exhibitions and events, design-related competitions and a growing directory of creative talent. They've recently taken the tools offline as well, hitting the road in a converted Toyota Hiace to inspire students around the country. The Design Kids Travelling Design Van will give folio workshops, run competitions (a typographic treasure hunt, anyone?) and a whole bunch more, and it's driven by some pretty dishy folk, might we add.

Pop by their website for all the details.
