minna gilligan's colleges - an interview

By

These are colleges like you have never seen them before. We interview the mind behind them.

Name: Minna Gilligan. Lives: Melbourne. What do you do: I paint and draw and watch episodes of 'Golden Girls' with my Nanna. Tell us a little about you and your illustration style: I'm 21 years old and really like fake fruit. I just completed an undergraduate degree in Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts. In regards to my illustration style I think a lot about living entirely in a fantasy separate from any defined space or period of time. My works are like egocentric, psychedelic time slips where anything and everything is possible. What inspires you: Oh everything from Maria Muldaur's 1974 song 'Midnight at the Oasis' to blankly staring at my lava lamps, watching the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory attempting to memorize the entire script and Google imaging obscure and very specific scenes from episodes of the Brady Bunch. What are you working on right now: At the moment I'm working as an illustrator for Rookie Magazine, which is Tavi Gevinson's new website for teen girls. Where can we see more of your wonderful work: I blog all too often here and weekly at Rookie. I have a show called 'Halos and Plateaus' on at the moment with Melbourne based artist Georgina Glanville at Rearview Gallery, 224 Smith Street, Melbourne.
