fransje gimbrere’s standing textiles
These structures look fragile, but can support the weight of a human body. Cool, hey?
When we think of textiles, we generally think of clothes, cushions, tapestries and so on. Rarely, if ever, do we think of building components. But Fransje Gimbrere has proven that textiles can also be freestanding structures, thanks to her series of designs entitled Standing Textiles. Made from yarn using a custom-made weaving loop, and sealed with bio-resin to retain their structural shape, these pieces can be used as dividing walls, architectural installations and interior objects. Sure, they look fragile, but apparently they're strong enough to support the weight of a human body! Yep, it’s pretty nifty stuff – not to mention damn attractive.
