How lovely was the subscriber-only art poster for this issue? Sometimes we need to be reminded that everything will almost certainly be fine. We had a chat with Michigan-based graphic designer, artist and all-round lovely frankie pal Paulina Pulawska about her cool, creative stuff.

Tell us a little about your art style. My style can be described as poppy, retro and whimsical. I draw inspiration from the ’60s and ’70s, incorporating their fonts and colours, then adding collage and illustration elements using public domain images to give them new life. But I dabble in illustration as well! I usually make art with words and like to focus on motivational or silly sayings.

When did you first start making art? I’ve been making art ever since I was a toddler and never stopped. I wanted to be a children's book illustrator, an art teacher, a photographer and so on. Then I discovered graphic design in high school. Ever since I was little, I have been drawing or doing something crafty like making friendship bracelets. Making art is all I really know!

How did your artwork (now featured as a frankie poster) come to be? My “Everything Will Certainly Be Fine” poster came from a fortune cookie; I have the little piece of paper hanging on my bulletin board in my room. The quote resonated with me and I wanted to make a poster! I was enjoying drawing folky and floral symmetrical frames at the time as well and that's how the illustration came to be. I’m usually taking multiple things that inspire me and putting them into one poster!

Where do you find inspiration and creative motivation? I find inspiration from everything around me. Whether it’s a quote from a book, a movie, a tv show, or a little trinket at the antique store. There’s a lot to be inspired by. I’m motivated by the feeling I get when I am creating and how it feels to make something just for the sake of it. It also kind of is my job! That motivates me too, I guess!

What’s next on your ‘to-create’ list? For my online shop, I make and sell things like posters, stickers and such. I really want to start creating more stationery products like washi tape, sticker sheets and notepads! Then of course, make more posters!

Where can we see more of your work? My work can be seen on Instagram at @delicate.type! I also write a newsletter on Substack called Design Type.
