Big Joanie are all sorts of cool. The London trio make punk music, which they describe as being like “the Ronettes filtered through ’80s DIY and riot grrrl with a sprinkling of dashikis” – but that’s really only scratching the surface. There’s heaps going on in Big Joanie’s tracks, including oodles of fun, feelings and stories. Oh, and they hope that by making black punks more visible, they’ll inspire more young black folks to get involved in the scene – an excellent thing for all concerned (medical fact: punk is good for you). Stream their tunes (including a deliciously fuzzy cover of TLC’s “No Scrubs”) via Bandcamp, or just below.
