Even seasoned music journalists struggle to explain the awesomeness of Tank and the Bangas, so you should probably just go and see them for yourselves. Helpfully, the New Orleans musical juggernaut is touring Australia next year (for the first time ever – yay!), so you’re not already a convert, maybe make a little time to worship at the church of Bangaville. As you’ll know if you read our interview with Tank in issue 78 (cough – shameless plus), the band came together in a higgelty-piggelty fashion, united by a core ethos: that people are dope. As for their sound, well, imagine funk fused with hip hop and spoken word. Oh, and a sprinkling of jazz for good measure. Or don’t imagine – just hit play on the video to watch their NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Then scroll down a little further to check out all their tour dates.
