yuri himuro’s interactive textiles
There’s something so deeply satisfying about taking an existing arty template and adding your own creative flair to it (that’s probably why adults still get a kick out of colouring books and paint-by-numbers kits).
Tokyo textile designer Yuri Himuro's works tap into that child-like love of arts and crafts – her tapestries are designed to be chopped up. Cut away the surface yarn on one of her lovely SNIP SNAP textiles and you’ll reveal new details underneath, like a fish-filled pond or a contrasting colour that can be used to add depth or detail to the existing scene.
We chatted with Yuri about her impressive work back in issue 97, and loved it so much that we thought we’d revisit it here. To see more of her textiles, pop over to her website.
