the archibald prize 2025 is visiting geelong gallery and you’re invited
You’re no doubt familiar with the grand majesty of the occasion, but have you ever seen for yourself the array of exceptional work that is featured in the Archibald Prize? The 57 top-notch works of art that depict a notable figure from any corner of the culture are going on tour around the country, exhibiting the collection of finalists at a range of galleries so that you, too, can judge your favourites for yourself. Next stop on the Archibald Prize 2025 tour: Geelong Gallery.
From now until November 9th, Geelong Gallery is playing host to the assortment of portraits that portray figures from all walks of life. Among the familiar faces – like superstar Grace Tame painted by Mostafa Azimitabar and comedian Aaron Chen painted by Peter Ke Heng Chen (his dad!) – you’ll also be able to spy some hometown heroes and local legends in the mix of ripper portraits. This year’s winning work goes to Julie Fragar’s Flagship Mother Multiverse (Justene) – a portrait of Brisbane/Magandjin multi-disciplinary artist Justene Williams – and boy is it a stunner.
Led by the notion of reflecting back to us the stories of our time, it’s fitting that the Archibald Prize 2025 features more finalist works by women artists than men. Visiting arty-types can peruse the collection of finalists and winners – including the Packing Room Prize and the People’s Choice – at Geelong Gallery now. Pop on over this-a-way to nab your tickets and feast your eyes on what’s in store.
