'spoon archaeology' bids farewell to plastic cutlery
If we’re optimistic, we'll one day live in a time where single-use plastics are considered historical artefacts to be examined with curiosity. To give us a taste of this not-too-distant reality, German curator Thomas A. Geisler put on a clever display at the 2021 London Design Biennale last month. Visitors were greeted by an enormous range of spoons in all colours, shapes and sizes, carefully encased in wooden frames akin to butterflies in a natural history museum. The installation aimed to address sustainability concerns while teaching the different functionalities of an underappreciated item (that may soon disappear). Win-win!
