off-kilter collage by harriet moutsopoulos
To have egg on your face means you look a fool, but Sydney artist Harriet Moutsopoulos’s work invites you to question what it might mean to sport a mushroom on your mug or a piece of burnt toast. Harriet, who works under the name Lexicon Love, obscures faces with food and other weird objects in order to confuse, provoke and tease viewers (check, check and check). She describes her absurdist collages as an extension of her “twisted sense of humour”, creating pieces that range from the slightly unsettling (a series involving raw meat) to just plain silly (a smiley face drawn from tomato sauce). If you’d like to purchase one of Harriet’s brilliantly bonkers pieces, you can do so over here.
