nostalgic aviary rugs by cold picnic

If you’re in the mood to take a short history lesson on interior design, then we suggest having a squiz at Brooklyn brand Cold Picnic’s latest collection of hand tufted rugs.

The repetitive patterns printed on the rugs are inspired by two places in Corona, Queens. The first is jazz icon Louis Armstrong’s home, complete with matchy-matchy wallpaper and upholstery and a futurism-inspired kitchen. The second location is the geodesic dome atop the aviary at Queens Zoo.

The arty folks behind Cold Picnic, Phoebe Sung and Peter Buer, say the aviary is "at once nostalgic and futuristic". We think that’s a pretty good description of the fun shapes and cool colours that adorn their new rugs. Check out the full range over here.
