nguan’s pastel singapore
You’d be forgiven for thinking that the snaps produced by the mysterious photographer known only as Nguan had come straight from an indie film. The pastel hues and soft lighting give each photograph a dreamy cinematic vibe.
The Singapore shutterbug has been active for decades, capturing pale skyscrapers against a hazy blue backdrop, locals going about their day, bright plastic furniture lining the streets and patches of urban nature.
He says the secret to his dreamlike photographs is avoiding overly bright light. “I only work during the last two hours of daylight, when the sun is low and everything is aglow,” he tells It’s Nice That. “It doesn’t matter if something amazing is going on earlier in the day — if the light is harsh, I’m not getting out of bed.”
