meenal patel’s joyful illustrations

By

There’s a lot of art out there that makes you scratch your head and ponder the state of the world, but Meenal Patel’s illustrations are the kind that make you feel like you’re being hugged by a good pal. The US illustrator injects warmth and childlike wonder into everything she puts on the page, drawing adventurous young characters surrounded by lots of colour and pattern. Considering her joyful style, it’s no surprise to learn that Meenal is a children’s book author, too. Her books, Priya Dreams of Marigolds and Masala and Neela Goes to San Francisco (both of which she wrote and illustrated) are just two ways she’s making sure little ones from South Asian backgrounds feel seen by the media they grow up with.
