hidden hummingbirds: subtle street art you’ll love

By

It can be chaotic walking around cities – how to even spot a street sign amid aggressive advertisements, towering billboards and frenetically-designed shop fronts? Imagine turning a corner and noticing a small, perfectly painted hummingbird on a stark cement wall, and experiencing a brief moment of peace.

Muralist and artist Daniel Cortez, who goes by Decertor, chooses to adorn public spaces with subtle beautiful hummingbirds, usually mid-flight. Colourful and realistic, stumbling across one of these would make anyone’s day. (And everyone knows hummingbirds are objectively the cutest birds.) He said on a Facebook post: “Making them is just as satisfying as discovering them hidden in unexpected walls, columns and corners.”

We love this choice to add a touch of soft beauty into the world for beauty’s sake, and to hide them in places for others to find purely by chance. More of this, please.
