get to know some of the fab queens performing in an upcoming chrissie tour
Looking for a fun event to help celebrate the jolliest time of the year? Well keep your peepers firmly on this page – since we reckon this Chrissie-themed drag show starring some of the biggest stars from RuPaul's Drag Race might be right up your alley.
The show – delightfully named RuPaul's Drag Race: Slay Belles – features beloved drag performers such as Alyssa Edwards, Kitty Scott-Klaus, Lemon, Tessa Testicle and (of course) some of our own homegrown talent: Kween Kong, Coco Jumbo and Karen from Finance. We were lucky to sit down and have a quick chinwag with some of the queens before they kick off their first show in Sydney next week, which you can read below.

COCO JUMBO is a Sydney/Warrane-based drag queen who starred on RuPaul's Drag Race: Down Under Season one.
What influenced you to start drag and how did you first get started in drag? After cross-dressing from the fine age of two-years-old I thought drag was the next natural step of my evolution!
If you were a dessert, which one would you be and why? Coming into summer I’d be a sticky date pudding. If you’ve seen me after a show you’d know why!
What advice or tips would you give somebody starting to drag? Go through your ugly phase with grace!
What does a ‘day in the life’ look like for you? I’m a queen of the night: I wake up at 5pm, paint my face, hit the club by 7pm and then leave at 7am.
What’s one myth about drag queens that you’d like to debunk? That all drag queens are c*nts – they’re not! It’s just some of us!

KAREN FROM FINANCE is a Melbourne/Naarm-based drag queen who starred on RuPaul's Drag Race: Down Under Season one.
What advice or tips would you give somebody starting to drag? Find something unique about yourself and run with it! Drag is so popular now – we've seen it all! But we haven't seen you!
What does a ‘day in the life’ look like for you? Hilariously enough, I actually do have a corporate nine to five job now! It's life imitating art – after a lifetime of art imitating life! Work, booze, bed; that's it for me – but never necessarily in that order!
Who has been the most influential person in your life? Schapelle Corby. She is the epitome of the Chumbawamba song: "I got knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down." Icon.
You can invite three people to a dinner party, dead or alive. Who would they be? Princess Diana, Dolly Parton and Mum!
What are some drag queen-approved tips for building confidence on stage or the runway? Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse!! Only take on stage what you know and are comfortable with. Be yourself and you can't go wrong!

KITTY SCOTT-CLAUS is a UK-based drag queen who starred on RuPaul's Drag Race UK Season three and RuPaul's Drag Race: Global All Stars.
What was something that had a significant impact on your persona and style? Growing up, I always had Barbie dolls – and what I loved was that it didn’t matter what the occasion or career they were in, there was always an outfit or look to suit. Barbie can do it all, and that’s how I think of drag: change the outfit and you can take over the world.
Do you have any pre-performance rituals? I’m newly alcohol-free, so my pre-show ritual no longer includes having a bevvy with the girls. I like to have a decent amount of time to get ready – I hate being rushed so making sure everything is laid out and ready to go.
If drag queens were desserts, which one would you be and why? I’d be a strawberry tart, because I’m sweet, I like strawberries and I’m a bit of a tart.
Who is your favourite Australian music artist? Kylie Minogue! Is there any other option!?
What’s the best way for a drag performer to recover physically and mentally after an intense show or tour? By allowing yourself to have a life outside of drag. For the longest time, drag was my everything and I would live, sleep and breathe it – which is amazing, but you also need to allow yourself time to enjoy other hobbies.
TESSA TESTICLE is a Swiss drag queen who starred on Drag Race Germany and RuPaul's Drag Race: Global All Stars.
What influenced you to start drag and how did you get started in drag? Drag was always part of me. As a child, I was constantly playing dress-up, but it wasn’t until I discovered RuPaul’s Drag Race in my teens that I truly embraced it and committed to drag.
What does a ‘day in the life’ look like for you? My life is a bit of a blend of reality and glamour these days. During the week, I work at a spinning and cycling studio, working the reception and also teaching classes as an instructor. But the weekends? Those belong to my drag shows where the real magic happens!
What’s one myth about drag queens that you’d like to debunk, and what’s the reality? The myth that we’re always late! The reality: we’re fashionably on time.
What are two pantry essentials you can’t live without? Cinnamon – spicy and warm, like me! And honey, because a queen always needs a little sweetness.
What is your favourite book of all time? "Becoming" by Michelle Obama. Her journey is proof of the strength it takes to make an impact.
RuPaul's Drag Race: Slay Belles will be playing across various states in Australia from November 16 – 22. Check out all the event information you'll need by popping over here.
