get a load of kayla may's frosty photo series, eat it before it melts

After a long day at the beach, there’s no better feeling than chomping on (or strategically licking) a rainbow Paddle Pop. Sure, your hands and face end up covered in a sticky mixture of sunscreen, sand, sweat and sugary milk, but it’s worth it for the instant hit of sweet nostalgia.

Noshing on a frosty treat has the incredible ability to transport you back in time to family holidays and summer weekends spent with your school mates. Melbourne shutterbug Kayla May explores how the humble ice-cream is “a reminder of the fleeting nature of time” in her photo series, Eat it Before it Melts. Shot during the Australian summer just gone, Kayla captured around 40 close friends and strangers while they gulped down various types of iconic ice-creams, including Bubble O’Bills and Golden Gaytimes.

Kayla hopes to eventually turn the project into a photobook, but for now, she’s exhibiting the series. Eat it Before it Melts will be on display at the Brunswick Street Gallery in Melbourne from March 9th to 26th.
