feast your eyes on hiné mizushima’s soft sculptures

By

You know when you see something that is just so cute that you want to squeeze it? Normally, grabbing hold of an adorable sea creature might prove to be a bit of a challenge – with their home in the ocean and their slippery skin and all. Lucky for us, Hiné Mizushima has come up with the next best thing. The Japan-born, Vancouver-based fibre craft artist creates soft sculptures of a variety of sea creatures – including curious eels, pretty octopuses and hardworking squids. She also makes a slew of other soft animals and human bits that shouldn’t be quite as delightful to squeeze – like spikey snails and anatomies of kidneys – but, somehow, they still are. Have a squiz at the artist’s work on her website.
