Artist Nneka Jones proves you can do incredible things with just a needle and thread. You might not realise it at first, but Nneka’s portraits are expertly embroidered onto canvas – truly jaw-dropping stuff. The young Trinbagonian is still studying in Florida, but has already created an impressive body of work, some of which explores heavy topics like the sexual abuse and trafficking of girls. Nneka explains that her subjects look viewers straight in the eye to demand respect, while her series overall emphasises the importance of women and girls having control over their bodies.
