douglas clarke's retro watercolours

By

As a theatre designer, Douglas Clarke has the rad job of deciding how the on-stage world looks, guiding everything from costume design to sets and props. Sadly, his role was put on hold in 2020 when COVID restrictions shut down live theatre. To pass the time, Douglas instead channelled his creativity into watercolour paintings – all of which put a big ol' smile on our dial.

Much like his stage work, Douglas’ paintings combine bright colours with surreal elements and retro aesthetics. His oven painting is an ode to the dry heat of his home state Arizona, while references to space travel pay homage to his granny, a clever lady who worked for NASA back in the day.
