artist yumi okita crafts winged creatures from thread

By

Fibre artist Yumi Okita has been stitching up colourful textile moths for yonks, and it’s been super-satisfying to see how her creations have become increasingly lifelike over the years. (If you weren’t familiar with the Japanese-born, US-based artist’s work, then you’d easily mistake her embroidered winged critters for the real thing.)

These days, Yumi also makes intricate, strange and twisting botanical sculptures, which she sells on Etsy. To spy more of her rad work, have a squiz at her Instagram over here – it’s brimming with every kind of velvety-winged, fluffy-bodied moth you can imagine (as well as the occasional pretty butterfly).
