abi castillo’s crying ceramic creatures
While Disney movies may depict inanimate objects coming to life as a magical and wholesome experience, we have a feeling that, in reality, it might not be as cute as animated flicks make this supernatural phenomenon out to be. In fact, we reckon that if a teacup or a pot suddenly gained consciousness and facial features, they’d probably look a lot more like Abi Castillo’s quirky, tear-filled creations. I mean, if you had to endure years of going through a dishwasher cycle then you’d be a bit emotional too.
The Spain-based artist describes her ceramics as possessing the same “essence of my own self-portrait”, and uses her art as a physical means to display her own experiences and emotions; “I am represented as a sweet, animated natural being, surrounded by elements that wrap themselves around me”.
