a garden of pencil shavings

By

Ever considered turning your scraps into tiny, beautiful sculptures? Neither had we. But then we clapped eyes on these pencil shaving flowers by clever man Haruka Misawa and once again realised there ain’t nothing that can’t be art.

Noticing his pencil shavings formed clusters resembling flowers, the Japanese designer decided to replicate the effect with shavings of paper for a softer result. We must admit, they do look rather nice – like something you’d find in the fancy section of your nearest botanical garden – what with their intricate patterns and folds. If you’re keen to have a go at making pencil petals, head over to Haruka’s website. He’s got a bunch of close-up snaps of these teeny flowers and a diagram showing you exactly how to make your own.
