tunesday – this or that with blusher

We caught up for a chinwag with Jade Ingvarson-Favretto, Miranda Ward and Lauren Coutts – AKA Blusher.

Writing music at morning or night? Jade Ingvarson-Favretto: I feel more creatively inspired late at night! Something chemical happens in my brain; I get the zoomies and my sense of time and reality distorts.

Miranda Ward: Whichever time is going to catch your thinking mind off guard – either five in the morning or late at night.

Touring or playing in your hometown? JIF: I'm longing for a hometown show. It’s so special (and nerve-wracking) when your family and friends are in the crowd, and people who share the same connection to a place as you. It’s like you’re all in on an inside joke.

Lauren Coutts: Touring! It’s so fun to get to know a new city and culture through playing a show.

Melody or lyrics? JIF: Melodies and chords are my bread and butter – they come first for me in the writing process and steer what the emotion of a song will be. Sometimes they make you feel emotions that words can’t articulate.

MW: That’s like choosing a favourite child, but my theory is everyone secretly has a favourite child, and mine is melody.

Clubs or pubs? JIF: I am in my club era which is a very fun time to be in. I preferred pubs when I was younger, but now it’s time to dance.

MW: Clubs! Or a morning coffee shop with a DJ which I stumbled across recently in Melbourne.

LC: Definitely pubs for me! What can I say? I’ve got British/Scottish heritage, so pubs are in my blood.

Bratz or Barbie? JIF: I was a Bratz girl growing up (maybe because one of them was named Jade). I used to love their giant shoes. I had a Bratz pencil case, Bratz roller skates, and I loved the Bratz movies.

LC: I grew up with Barbie. In particular, the movie Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper. The soundtrack is incredible and it’s still one of my favourite movies.

Going fast or going slow? JIF: Going fast, preferably on wheels.

MW: I, personally, am a racer, so obvs fast.

LC: Fast for sure. We’re a high-speed band – we’ve been called a “Blusher bullet train.”
