tunesday – seven questions with emma russack
Emma Russack's latest release pays tribute to Timothée Chalamet's 'gram.
Tell us a bit about you and the music you make. I've been around for a while now. My music is simple and comes from the heart.
How did the idea to use Timothée Chalamet’s Instagram captions as the jumping off point for the songs on your new EP, 5 Timothée Chalamet Instagram Captions, come about? I had just watched Timothée’s Bob Dylan movie and was lying on the couch scrolling through his Instagram when the idea hit me. I'd just had a baby and was looking for something to do creatively that wouldn't be too emo/whiny. Also, the idea of setting creative "boundaries" has always really interested me. So, deciding that I would construct songs using Timothée Chalamet’s Instagram captions seemed exciting and challenging.

What’s your favourite Timothée performance? I really loved him in Call Me By Your Name.
Does Timothée’s presence appear in any of the songs beyond their titles? In the song “i've been playing with myself all day”, I was imagining being Timothée in character as Bob Dylan. Generally speaking, though, I think all the songs were written from his perspective. It was hard not to visualise his face the entire time.
What fascinates you about Timothée’s Instagram? His captions. They are often quite quirky.

If you could soundtrack any Timothée film, which would it be? Hmm... Maybe I would cover Sufjan Stevens’ “Visions of Gideon” from Call Me By Your Name for the Timothée Chalamet biopic.
Out of the five songs, which do you think Timothée would be most likely to listen to on repeat? Definitely “napkinface ...”.
Emma Russack's EP, 5 Timothée Chalamet Instagram Captions, will be released on November 21st via Dinosaur City Records.
