We sat down with the rising pop star to chat about reconnecting to her younger self, touring with Dua Lipa, and what she would press pause on if she could.

Tell us about the music you’re releasing this year. HI FRANKIE! First off, big fan. I grew up tearing out the posters from your mag, sticking them on my wall and repurposing them as wrapping paper. I loved some of the art so much that I still have them to this day, tucked in my cupboard somewhere. OK, OK, music… The storytelling is everything I’m focusing on in the studio at the moment. Honing in on who I am, what I want to say. I’m also bringing back the calluses on my fingers and making sure guitars are at the front of everything I do. I started there, in my room at 14 with a guitar in hand, looking at my frankie posters on the wall, trying to write heartfelt songs, so that’s what I’m trying to go back into.

You’re about to go on tour with Dua Lipa. What are you most excited about? Firstly, the fact that I get to tour with Dua Lipa! She was one of the first musicians I met. I am so excited to play to a crowd of that size. I remember walking into my first record-label meeting saying that I wanted to play arenas and I’m finally living out my dream.

What inspired your track, “Press Pause”? My friends, as so many times I’ve wanted to fix heartache or trauma for someone. I realised that the majority of time, you can’t do anything to help but be there to listen – that feels like growing up.

What are you hoping to press pause on? SO MUCH! My kids’ age – they’re the best, so fun. Maybe the middle of my best performance for Dua’s show. And every day, so I can meditate.

How do you get in the mood to write music? I have to really get some time away from head noise and daily life. I drink tea, go to a café and zone in to myself.

And how do you like to relax in your downtime? I love reading and taking magnesium baths. Both things take minimum an hour.

What do you do to prepare for a show? I do a little meditation right before I go on stage to really slow down time – that’s the one thing I always do.

Outside of music, what makes you happy? My family, surfing, exercising, cooking, podcasts and painting.
