Take a peek at refugee children’s hopes, fears and everyday challenges in this wondrous photo series.
There are around 8 million refugee children in the world, 3.5 million of which cannot attend school – an almost incomprehensible figure. Good thing, then, that self-taught shutterbug Patrick Willocq has taken the time to visit refugee camps and take a photo series called The Art of Survival. Each picture is a staged recreation of refugee children’s hopes, fears and everyday challenges – and the stories behind them are nothing short of heart wrenching. One Syrian girl saw her school blow up before her eyes; another Syrian girl’s neighbours’ house was shelled. The hopeful project was commissioned by non-profit organisation Save the Children, and the work in its entirety can be viewed over on Patrick’s website.
