susanna bauer leaf embroidery
Susanna Bauer has spent hours painstakingly stitching yarn through dead leaves to make intricate little artworks.
There's a reason why the saying is 'fragile as a leaf' – once it's fallen from a plant, foliage becomes darn brittle and tends to crunch and crumble at the slightest touch. That's what makes this leafy project by German artist Susanna Bauer all the more impressive. The clever lady has spent hours painstakingly stitching yarn through dead leaves found while off on an evening walk, crocheting and rejigging them to make intricate little artworks.
Susanna trained her steady hands making props for film and TV (it takes a whole lot of concentration to mould mini cheese wedges for Wallace and Gromit) and thank goodness she did, because now we get to marvel at these mini masterpieces.
