In primary school we were always taught that only friends and family could enter our 'personal bubble', and it's a life lesson that we still like to drawn on as globe-roaming adults.
In primary school we were always taught that only friends and family could enter our 'personal bubble', and it's a life lesson that we still like to drawn on as globe-roaming adults. Unfortunately, not everyone was taught about the bubble rule, managing to find ways to invade our space on trains, footpaths and sometimes just during a conversation (close-talkers, we're looking at you).
Artist Kathleen McDermott is all too aware of this problem, so she's come up with the ingenious Personal Space Dress: a frock that extends the space around the wearer's body, preventing people from getting too up-close-and-personal. It works using sensors that can tell if someone's over-stepping the chumminess mark, and while we do approve of some healthy interaction - from a comfortable distance, of course - we think it's rather clever indeed.
