meet the artists behind the 2024 frankie calendar

By

Let’s get to know these super-talented peeps.

We’re not too sure how we feel about 2023 slowly approaching the finish line (seriously – when did it suddenly become October!?) but we know for a fact that we’re pretty chuffed that we have a swish new calendar to help us ring in the new year of 2024. If you haven’t already had a sneak peek of some of the rad illos then pop on over here, and once you’ve gotten a good look then pop back over to meet some of the lovely contributing artists. Also – don’t forget to grab the frankie 2024 calendar by visiting the frankie shop or our friendly stockists.

Are any exciting plans on the horizon? I’m hoping to launch new products next year including greeting cards.

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? Yes, and I think it will be to expand my product base

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? Summer is my favourite and winter my least favourite. I get very cold!

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? Seeing my artwork on different products like puzzles, fabric, greeting cards and packaging. I have some special projects launching next year!

REBECCA TER BORG is an illustrator based in Auckland, NZ. Her quirky art is inspired by a love for flowers, bees and other small critters.

Are any exciting plans on the horizon? I'm looking forward to doing some mural painting in a few months - I love scaling up my images to a gigantic size and mural festivals are always a lot of fun.

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? I usually create a highly detailed, nerdy plan for the year – and then forget to look at it again until I'm making my next one the year after.

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? I love early autumn when it's still warm but not too warm, settled and mellow and cicadas everywhere.  I have to say winter can get a bit depressing near the end!

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? I don't know if I've had a particular highlight this year but starting a new side-hustle teaching first-year design students has certainly been an interesting change, it's so cool to see them discovering things and getting excited about making and creating – it helps me too!

HYESU LEE is a South Korean artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She has had her art published in magazines, packaging and public murals, and is inspired by human connection.

Any exciting plans on the horizon? Yes, my first authored and illustrated book Self-Love Club published by Chronicle Books is coming out on November 21st!

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? Absolutely yes!

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? My favourite season is summer, and least favourite season is winter. Winter in New York is so long.

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? I started learning kickboxing in late January and it's been so much fun and helpful for my daily life.

LISA HU is based on the sunny Gold Coast and has worked within a range of mediums such as ceramics, textiles and painting. Her love for flora and fauna are key features of her art, as well as a love for gardening.

Any exciting plans on the horizon? I'm hoping to travel a bit next year, and maybe even do an art residency.

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? I think yes, but there's no right or wrong time to set a resolution. As long as you're not putting too much pressure on yourself, I think a fresh year can be a great time to start a challenge or set a goal.

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? My favourite season has to be spring, when all the plants and flowers are in full bloom. My least favourite would probably be summer, I don't cope well in the heat!

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? My highlight has been having the time to work on personal artworks and projects, things that don't necessarily have an end goal, but just bring me joy!

A post shared by Flore (@papier.coton)

FLORE COUSSERAN is a France-based illustrator who has a love for bright colours, patterns and elements of nature. She has an affinity for using gouache and watercolour paints.

Any exciting plans on the horizon? I am working on various projects I can’t talk about, so stay tuned!

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? Yes, even mid-year resolutions! My inspiration and desires change all the time, but having resolutions helps me to see the kind of life I want to have (mainly living by the ocean and painting all day).

What’s your favourite and least favourite season?  Summer is my favourite season, because days are endless here and the vibe is unique. But I don’t have a least favourite season, I like everything each season brings.

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? Moving to Bordeaux this summer, it feels like a new adventure!

EKO SHINOHARA is a Japanese illustrator based in Indonesia. Her inspirations come from scenes of her daily life as well as fantasy.

Any exciting plans on the horizon? I'm still new here in Indonesia so I’m planning to travel around this amazing country. I can't wait to visit the beautiful temples of Yogyakarta and the wild nature of Bukit Lawang!

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? Yes, but I try not to be too strict. Let things happen and have fun.

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? My favourite season is summer and my least favourite is autumn. The end of the hot season always makes me sad. Fortunately, I am now enjoying the everlasting summer here.

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? The best thing that happened to me this year is that I made some new friends. Talking about art with artists from other countries and learning about their cultures is the most exciting thing for me.

Any exciting plans on the horizon? Actually, I have no plans on the horizon and, honestly, I'm pretty excited about that.

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? I always make them, but I never stick to them.

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? My least favourite is summer and my favourite is the fall (probably because it marks the end of summer)

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? We moved into a new house and it has been a much-welcomed change of scenery.

CONSTANZA GOEPPINGER is a designer from Chile currently based in the Gold Coast. She describes her art as feminine and colourful.

Any exciting plans on the horizon? Possibly traveling to South America to visit my family and starting a new business unrelated to illustration (and more related to ice cream!).

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? Yes! I always make them; it makes me more motivated. One of the big ones is making art in different formats, like murals and paintings.

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? Because I live on the Gold Coast, all the seasons are great except for the very hot summer days for me, but in general I think Spring is the best!

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? The highlights of my year have been watching my son Noah grow up and do funny things, and also being in the frankie calendar this year of course!

A post shared by Sarah Strickland (@sars_stricko)

SARAH STRICKLAND is a textile designer and artist based in Melbourne. She loves bold colours and has had her art featured in magazines, musicians, radio stations and homewares.

Any exciting plans on the horizon? I’m not a huge plan maker but as painting has been on the back burner a bit of late, so I’m hoping to get back into it and I’d love to get enough work together for a show.

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? Nah, I like more of quiet reflection on the past year.

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? Autumn, always! Best weather, beautiful colour and a general slowing down of life that I enjoy.

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? My new baby boy! He came along in May after a long pregnancy that seemed to last a few years. He has been delighting us ever since, he seems like a real good guy.

Making New Years’ resolutions, yes or no? A big yes! You will thank yourself later.

What’s your favourite and least favourite season? Indonesia has two seasons; the dry season (April to October), and the monsoon (November to March). My favourite will always be the dry season! I always feel the warmth in that season.

What’s been the highlight of your year, so far? I think having a collaboration with you guys is a dream come true to me, so yeah definitely this is my highlight of the year!
