make your own bread and butter pickles
Whipping up this fridge staple is surprisingly easy.
There’s no sandwich that can’t be improved by a smattering of pickles – especially if they’re homemade. Whether it’s a gooey grilled cheese or a light salad sub, that sanga is sure to be elevated by the sweet, tangy, slightly crunchy goodness that pickles provide.
The best bit about the humble pickle is it’s super-simple (and pretty cheap) to make. This recipe for bread and butter pickles by Love & Olive Oil, for example, calls for a few crunchy cukes, an onion, some seeds and seasoning, and the all-important vinegar. It doesn’t get much easier than that! Head this-a-way for the how-to. (And don’t fret if dill pickles are more your thing – there’s a recipe for those, too.)
To accompany you while you embark on your next culinary quest, we’ve cooked up some lovely kitchen merch, including three colourful tea towels and a flower-power apron. The designs are pulled straight from the pages of the frankie 2022 diary, which is full of vintage kitchen-inspired artwork by Pilgrim Hodgson. Find the lot over at the frankie shop.
