learn new skills with local musicians

Artists including Ruby Gill and Hachiku are livestreaming how-tos as part of this year’s Leaps and Bounds Music Festival.

As much as we miss letting loose at a live show, it’s been pretty cool to see what surprising talents musicians have up their sleeves. As part of this year’s Leaps and Bounds Music Festival, Melbourne’s beloved Gaso (The Gasometer) has lined up a number of Zoom dates with local artists. Rather than treating us to a live performance, however, each artist will be sharing some handy skills you might not know they have.

Ruby Gill (who you may remember as a 2019 Good Stuff finalist), for example, will be taking you birdwatching. Mick Meagher of The Putbacks will teach you how to play the bass, while Hachiku will show you how she records DIY songs from her bedroom. How sweet is that? You’ll find all the details for these upcoming events over here – and if you’re bummed out about missing Rainbow Chan’s recipe for tong jyun (sweet, glutinous rice balls) from last week, you can still view it over this-a-way.
