kirsten lyttle
For your Sunday art-viewing pleasure, here's Melbourne multimedia weaver Kirsten Lyttle.
If you've cracked open a copy of our book, A Little Bit Crafty, you may have seen quite a magnificent-looking white lei on page 37. We want to clarify that the maker and designer of this wonderful lei is Kirsten Lyttle. A Melbourne-based multi-media artist and uni teacher, Kirsten has exhibited her works in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Italy and France. Her latest public showing was at the Alcaston Gallery for Tino i le Va – Bodies in the Space, which included a whole heap of woven photo portraits of South Pacific women who weave. (This makes sense as Kirsten is a coordinator at the Pacific Women's Weaving Circle; she is a busy lady.) In 2015, she will begin her PhD candidature in Fine Art. She's also been helping run the Pacific Photobooks project in Melbourne, which will be launched next April at the Footscray Community Arts Centre, should you feel like checking it out.
