MATERIALS
1 ball Bendigo Woollen Mills 4 ply yarn
1 ball co-ordinating Bendigo Woollen Mills Lilt yarn
1 standard hair elastic per scrunchie
5mm circular knitting needles (40cm or 60cm circular needles)
4mm crochet hook
Tapestry/wool needle

Material note: for this project, we used the Luxury 4 ply in Copper and the Lilt in Bronze yarn for the large scrunchie, and the 4 ply Multicoloured Sock yarn in Native Garden and the Lilt in Laurel yarn for the small scrunchie.

METHOD
Large scrunchie
Using 5mm needles, holding the two yarns together, cast on 90 sts.

Join to knit in the round, being careful not to twist sts.

Knit 36 rows, holding both yarns together.

Cast off.

Small scrunchie
Using 5mm needles, holding the two yarns together, cast on 80 sts.

Join to knit in the round, being careful not to twist sts.

Knit 18 rows, holding both yarns together.

Cast off.

To make up your scrunchie
Turn your knitting inside out. Slide the hair elastic around the centre of the scrunchie.

Tip: Slide your scrunchie over a piece of cardboard wider than the scrunchie to make the scrunchie stretch a little, making it easier to stitch up.

Fold up the two sides of your scrunchie, enclosing the hair elastic inside.

Use a 4mm crochet hook and your 4 ply yarn only, attach yarn, then dc around to join sts from each side and close your scrunchie. Take care to st up evenly and tuck any loose threads inside the scrunchie as you go.

To finish
Bind off. Use needle to pull end thread inside the scrunchie. Leave crocheted edge on outside or adjust to inside of scrunchie if you want a ‘fuller’ look.
