Join in on the Aussie Bird Count this October 19th to 25th for your chance to win a prize (and help Aussie wildlife)!

What kind of nice stuff can you get done in 20 minutes to help Australia’s bird-y pals? Picking up rogue rubbish is a start, so is setting up a shallow bowl of water in your backyard in the peak of summer. But what about just going out and being among the birds themselves? The Aussie Bird Count is back this October 19th to 25th, inviting you to take part in helping keep track of Australia’s wildlife.

It’s as simple as spending 20 minutes outdoors in your favourite nature-filled spot, taking note of which feathered friends and folk are fluttering around. A handy app and web form helps you take note of the birds you find, as well as helps those who face extinction (which is one in six Australian birds!) be recognised by wildlife experts and scientists. The national program is a fun and easy way to get involved in supporting the wildlife we live alongside – every count helps to paint a more detailed picture of the birds around us. Plus, registering for the Aussie Bird Count and submitting a count between October 20th and 26th will put you in the draw to score one of five pairs of swish binoculars!

Pop over this-a-way to register to the 2026 Aussie Bird Count. For more deets on how to use the Aussie Bird Count App and keep track of your avian neighbours, have a squiz here.Snap by BirdLifeAus Photography.
