Summer is nearly over! Oh no! (Or, "Oh yay!" if you are pasty and sun-phobic like me). With the excitement of Boxing Day movies now but a distant memory, it's time to see what the last days of summer have left to offer (and have a quick peek at autumn too).

JANUARY

24 - Django Unchained
Have you ever wanted to see a film about a dentist-turned-bounty-hunter who freed a slave so they could team up and kill bad guys? Me too!

24 - The Impossible
The beach frightens me at the best of times (it's the sand and the possibility of sharks), but the recreation of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in the trailer for The Impossible makes me realise how little I have to complain about and how much I want to see this film.

31 - Silver Linings Playbook
Director David O. Russell (Three Kings, I <3 Huckabees, The Fighter) is apparently not a very nice person, which is a shame because the films he makes are usually very nice indeed.

31 - Zero Dark Thirty
THIS IS A SUPER EXCELLENT FILM THAT NEEDS TO BE DEFENDED. Unfortunately, I only have 25 words, so I'll keep it short: go see this!

31 - Flight
Since 2000, Robert Zemeckis has been responsible for some very scary movies, including The Polar Express. Flight is his first live action film this century! It's about a heroic pilot who may not be so heroic.

FEBRUARY

07 - Lincoln
I am not sure if I should trust Steven Spielberg with anything after War Horse, but apparently this is a "masterpiece" that can only be described using the word "virtuoso". WE'LL SEE.

14 - Anna Karenina
This is the thirteenth adaptation of Anna Karenina, this time with more Keira Knightley. It remains the ultimate ode to public transport.

14 – West of Memphis
When three 8-year-old boys were murdered in 1993, their case was made more terrible by the wrongful conviction of three teenagers, who remained in prison until 2011. Amy Berg's documentary takes a new look at the case.

28 - Amour
Michael Haneke is one of the most infuriating, challenging, patronising, empowering, difficult, brilliant directors working today. I love him. I hate him. I also respect him and his beard.

28 - Cloud Atlas
Even thought the Wachowskis have only really made one, maybe two, good movies, I still feel compelled to see everything they make. They are the flame to my moth. The Mata Hari to my French soldier. The Neo to my... Matrix.

Caution: Here be dragons! Autumn is coming.

MARCH

07 - Oz: The Great and Powerful
Can anything ever compare to The Wizard of Oz? Can Sam Raimi, James Franco and Michelle Williams save the day? There's only one way to find out.

07 - Side Effects
If you've been to America, you might know how absurd their pharmaceutical advertisements are: "Side effects may include screaming, insomnia and musical flatulence." For some people, though, side effects aren't absurd, but very real. This is what Steven Soderbergh explores here.

28 - Hyde Park On Hudson
THE ONE THING I KNOW ABOUT HYDE PARK ON HUDSON IS THIS: Bill Murray. This is the only thing I need to know. I watched Garfield for this reason and regret nothing.
