frankie christmas wishlist – kate pullen

frankie’s art director’s Chrissie stocking will be nothing less than super-stylish.

Alrighty folks, we’re here. It’s the first day of December and Christmas ain’t getting any further away. No need to fret just yet – our lovely art director, Kate Pullen, is here to save you from hitting your Chrissie gift panic buttons. With an eye for detail and impeccable taste, Kate’s wishlist might just be the inspiration you need to find the perfect present for your pals (or, let’s be honest, for yourself). Take a gander at the top-notch picks below.

Follow the number guide in the above image.

1. I reckon these have been saved in my browser for close to a year. They’re a gorge statement shoe that isn’t a heel or a sneaker, and for some reason they are also giving me slight Rumpelstiltskin vibes – which I’m digging. As I write this they’re even on sale, so I really need to put them straight into my cart, don’t I? Hang on, BRB.

2. This is essentially a message board, but insanely beautiful. After hanging it in the lounge, you then use its app to send messages (from anywhere!) to magically appear for those at home. Could I simply text my partner “I’m on the way, have picked up bread”? Well, yes, I could. But I want pizzazz, dear readers! I want jazz hands, I want glitter, I want mundane messages delivered as dramatically as ETAs of long-lost relatives on airport arrivals boards! Now, at $6k a pop, it’s true that I’m sadly going to have to live glitter-free for a little while longer, but this is precisely what wishlists are for.

3. Let’s be real, these are trackies with bows AND I LOVE THEM. This junction between comfort and style is absolutely my sweet spot, especially as I continue to try and find my style after the COVID years. Thank you Thing Thing, for being my thing!

4. Next on the wishlist are these beautiful earrings that make me think of Baloo singing about prickly pears in The Jungle Book. This must mean that they are bare necessities and should be added to my collection without delay.

5. The degree to which I am second-screening these days is bordering on ridiculous. So, in an attempt to be more mindful, I’d still like to leave the tele on but – instead of scrolling – I’d be attempting one of these delightful felt DIYs by Cat Rabbit. There are so many to choose from! Between fried eggs, peaches and Saladas, which one to tackle first is a tough choice, but I think it might have to be the bucket of (very cute) hot chippies. (Happy tears emoji)

6. Beaded necklaces may be everywhere at the moment, but there’s something about Kate Dansey’s pieces that feels truly ethereal. Between the colours, the translucency and the composition, it would be an honour to swan about with one of these works of art around my neck.

7. As a teen I had such a love for graphic tees, and was deeply invested in finding The Perfect Tee (an art director at heart, or a bit of a loner? I’ll leave you to decide). I’m chuffed that graphic tees have come back around in fashion and this Ena Pelly number is one I’d love to add to my collection.

8. I have been an admirer of Georgie Wilson’s work for such a long time, and so I would love to have one of her pieces hanging on my lounge room wall. Her work is a stunning mix of texture, colour and shape, and honestly, the most difficult decision is trying to narrow my wishlist down to one of them. We’re actually also featuring Georgie in frankie’s Summer Bumper Issue (129), so keep an eye out for more of her gorgeous pieces!

9. Lately I’ve noticed I keep gravitating toward blue and brown as a colour combo, and it’s not until sitting down to write my wishlist that I’m wondering if these sunnies are an extension of this most recent fixation. I’m not complaining though, ‘cause look at them! They are peak ‘70s, brown-and-blue, aviator realness. Divine!

10. As we’ve already established, I’m looking for joy in the everyday. Enter, the Potato Tray by Gentle Thrills! It’s bright, it’s colourful, it has an illustration of a potato as a dog, and its core purpose is to do nothing but make you smile. Be mine, sweet potato.
