Javanese people have been using a technique called batik to dye their textiles for yonks – it was introduced to them around the 6th or 7th century, in fact. It basically involves using wax as a stencil: draw on your pattern, paint your dye-of-choice over the top, then soak off the wax to reveal your snazzy design. Clever, huh?
