Javanese people have been using a technique called batik to dye their textiles for yonks – it was introduced to them around the 6th or 7th century, in fact. It basically involves using wax as a stencil: draw on your pattern, paint your dye-of-choice over the top, then soak off the wax to reveal your snazzy design. Clever, huh?

Thanks to its simplicity the technique has stood the test of time, finding its way into this super cute DIY wall hanging project.
