Like a box of Crayolas has exploded on the page, Jordan Sondler's illustrations are jampacked full of colour and good vibes.

Jordan Sondler lives in Brooklyn and spends her days doodling mighty bright scenes - sometimes still lifes, sometimes tasty treats, and sometimes just a well-coiffed poodle taking a casual stroll through the forest. Like a box of Crayolas has exploded on the page, her illustrations are jampacked full of colour and good vibes. We sent the talented lady a few questions to find out more about her artistic life.

What is your name and how old are you? My name is Jordan Sondler and I am 24 years old.

Where were you born and where do you live now? I grew up in Rhode Island but I have relocated to a walk-up in Queens , NY with my boyfriend and a bunch of plants.

Please describe the space where you do most of your creation – whether it's your art studio or kitchen bench! My studio is a room inside of our apartment—all I really need is a clean desk, my desktop, some ink and a pile of cardstock.

Is there a running theme to the work you create, or do you just make whatever comes to mind? I find inspiration from the objects I am surrounded by in my apartment, and aside from that, a girl sees everything while navigating the streets of the city. It's nice to run into hot pretzels on every corner, because I sure do love to draw those guys.

What makes your work unique and truly your own? My work is quirky and a bit child-like. It's always evolving and that keeps me interested enough to keep on pushing it.

How has your style changed over time? I think if anything, it has gotten more simplistic.

What do you wish you knew about being an artist before you got started? How essential it is to make friends. It's important to reach out to people that you admire, but not have an agenda. If this friendship happens to bring creative opportunity, that's great—but if nothing else it is great to know someone else in the field.

Are there any other mediums that you'd like to experiment with? I create two-dimensional work all of the time, so I try to find ways to work with my hands whenever I have the chance. It's nice to see the consistencies in style through taking a different approach. Though I must admit, I have terrible craftsmanship and that might be why everything I make is a little strange.

What other artists do you love? Paige Vickers, Nikki Miles, Alex Citrin, Jen Gotch, and Lindsey Balbierz are some amazing ladies who inspire me these days.

What are you doing when you're not making art? Cooking something amazing! Or spending all my money on fancy soaps and candles.
