akie nakata turns stones into pint-sized critters
The Japanese artist's meticulously painted rocks are too friggin' cute.
Collecting rocks isn’t the most thrilling of hobbies. At least, that’s what you’d think before directing your peepers at Akie Nakata’s painted stones. The Japanese artist has been transforming pebbles into pint-sized critters since 2010, selling each for a pretty penny, too. It’s easy to see why Akie’s meticulously painted pieces have become collector’s items: for one, they’re pretty friggin’ cute, and two, they take a whole lot of time to create. You see, Akie isn't into picking up any ol' rock. It's not until a stone catches her eye or 'finds her', that she even considers picking up her paintbrush. From there, it's a harmonious, almost spiritual process of creating the final work. If you're curious, check out the rest of her collection on Facebook.
