Lorraine Loots must have befriended Derek Zoolander at some point in her life, because she's gone about creating a series of pint-sized paintings that are just the right size for his Centre For Ants.

Lorraine Loots must have befriended Derek Zoolander at some point in her life, because she's gone about creating a series of pint-sized paintings that are just the right size for his Centre For Ants.

As part of her 365 Postcards for Ants project, the South African painter produces one miniature masterpiece for every day of the year – no bigger than a gold coin or matchstick. And they're not your average doodle, either, but super detailed, carefully shaded sketches that are worthy of some oohs and aahs.

The project began in 2013, and has since entered a second phase where the public can request a painting for a specific date (although the subject of the painting remains a mystery) and Lorraine will send it your way. Sadly this year's dates are already booked up, but if you want in on the puny painting action, you can request one of five limited edition copies of the artwork printed on a special archival postcard.

Check out all 260-something paintings from the year so far, here.
