It’s highly unlikely we’ll ever have the means to afford a piece of animal furniture crafted by Gerard Rigot, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dream of owning such charming woodwork. The French painter, born in 1929, started making the critter-inspired furniture when he bought a farmhouse in Toulouse. Since then, he’s made a series of hand-painted cat chairs and toucan benches – an ode to both native timber and the creatures his works depict.
